Three Days and counting!

Date June 14, 2010 Posted in Luke Comments 15 Comments »

It is hard to believe we are leaving in just three days!!  We actually only have two full days left because we leave for the airport at 1pm Thursday and our flight leaves at 4:35pm.  We will be in Chicago by 7:40pm local time.  It is truly bittersweet.  We have enjoyed our time here immensely!!  One of the other moms that we met stated it perfectly, “Poland is Europe’s best kept secret.”  It may not be the most popular destination, but it is one of the best!  The food is truly phenomenal.  Just tonight’s dinner is a perfect example, Keith had veal, I had duck, Luke had chicken.  Keith’s veal was so outstanding it nearly brought tears of joy to my eyes (okay little extreme), and my duck…yum!!  Plus we had delicious beet soup and a total of 3 beers (0.5L each).  The real kicker is this all cost 109 zlotyz which is equal to 33 US dollars and you only tip 10%.  Amazing!!  I recommend anyone who loves to eat, drink, and be merry to visit Poland!!

Anyway, today we picked up Luke’s Polish passport and paid for our apartment stay.  Tomorrow we go to the US Embassy for our 9:30 appointment.  We will return there at 3pm to pick up Luke’s visa.  So everything is on schedule and we should be ready to leave Thursday.  We will start pack tomorrow!!  I can’t believe this is happening, it has been so wonderful.  Not just the traveling and visiting Poland, but falling head over heels in love with our son.  Just the other week I broke down in tears as I was singing him to sleep.  It finally hit me that we really did it, we have a son!  And he is healthy, beautiful, and we love him more than we can ever have imagined.  Parenting is not easy, but as someone more wise than I said, nothing worth doing is ever easy and this is definitely worth doing!!

We really appreciate all of the support over the last two months and really the last two years of this process.  We feel very blessed and loved over and over again!  We know how loved Luke will be and how much support we have in raising him.  Thank you all for your constant prayers and well wishes.  We love you lots and Luke will too!!!  We look forward to seeing all of you fall in love with Luke, he is a charmer!!  Life is really funny, you never can plan how things are going to go, but it all works out in the end.  I am getting all sappy on all of you, but this has been an amazing process and again thank you for all of your support!

This might be the last post for awhile because we have a couple busy days coming up, but I will try to get one up as soon as possible!

Lots of Love from Poland,

Julie, Keith & Luke

I know every one will be glad you’re finally home, but I know I’ll miss the pics and posts. We will be stopping in Sunday afternoon, just a short visit before we head home. Maybe we can have a beer with Keith!!!!. We’ve had storms here for the last 3 nights. Last night the electric was off from 9:30 until 3 or 4. Couldn’t sleep for sweating. I’m really tired today. Need to clean up the back yard & pool, but TJ has a game at 7:15, I can’t miss that, then I’ll come home and go to bed. Looking forward to meeting your son!!!!! He’s so adorable. We love you. Love & hugs to all.

Momma’s hormones are raging : ) I know what you mean about the bursting out crying while you sing him to sleep. This blessing is so completely overwhelming there is no way to prepare yourself for this kind of love and relationship. Dave & I pray to God over and over in thankfulness for little Luke and ask that we will all make good choices for our family somehow. You guys did so well with these posts, they really helped Luke’s family get ready to welcome him home….the Williamsons are absolutely bursting in anticipation!!!! Just waiting to hear when we can come and see you guys!!! Sat morning? Feel free to be completely deliberate with your preferences….this might get crazy with all of the introductions.

I am so happy for you and your son. It brought me to tears too. The day has really arrived when you will be on your way home. It has been an adventure for all the family. So happy I had a computer too so I could keep up with it all. The whole experience is really exciting and yes a true blessing from God. Really looking forward to being with all three of you. Praying for a safe trip. Expect you’ll have some jet lag with the big time change. Be careful and take good care of yourselves. Lots of love….See you soon. Grandma Betty

Hi Julie, Keith and Luke, I’m new to blogging and posting, so getting your emails was exciting and fun. Want to keep it up and learn more about how you all are doing when you get home. The whole process you have gone through sounds daunting, but you are in your “final lap” and will hit home base real soon! Here’s wishing you “safe home” and I know everyone will be so happy to have you all back home!
Lots of Love from your cousin, Judie

Luke is a beautiful little boy who is so lucky that he found the perfect mommy and daddy. I have been so very touched by all the love shown in the pictures and postings that I feel I know Luke already. Poland looks like a great place to visit…maybe someday we’ll get to see it. When you get yourselves all settled back home, we’d love to have you over for dinner (Polish food, if you want). God bless you all. Love, The Pierogs
